How do I fit the kick pad and the beater?

1. Use the drum key to fit the beater to the pedal.
2. Slide the pedal into the pad frame and tighten it with the wing screw.
3. Set the beater as close to the centre of the pad as possible — that is the condition for even response and quieter operation.

What is on the rear panel of the module?

Eight sockets, in order:

1. 3.5 mm — headphones
2. 3.5 mm — line input (Aux In)
3. 6.5 mm — additional pad
4. 6.5 mm — additional pad
5. 6.5 mm — audio output, right channel
6. 6.5 mm — audio output, left channel
7. USB-B — MIDI interface
8. 9 V power

Warning from the manual: connecting devices in ways they are not intended for can permanently damage the module.

What are the dimensions, and does it suit a child?

Set up, the kit takes about 120 cm in width and about 70 cm in depth. All the mounting parts use wing screws, so you do not need a drum key to assemble it.

The height and position of each element adjust over a wide range — the kit fits a child just as well as an adult drummer.

How do I save my own kit?

1. Press VOICE.
2. Hit the pad you want to change — the module selects it automatically.
3. Use the VALUE dial or the +/− buttons to choose a new sound.
4. Press SAVE. Your settings are stored in kits KIT 31–60 — the module holds 60 kits, 30 of which are yours to use.

The pad only responds to hard hits

1. Press MENU and choose SENSITIVITY.
2. Hit the pad you want to adjust with a stick — the module selects it automatically.
3. SEN. — a higher value means greater sensitivity.
4. THREH. (threshold) — the lower the value, the weaker the hits that register.

Adjust in small steps. Very high sensitivity combined with a very low threshold produces accidental sounds from rack vibration.

The pad produces double hits

Double triggering comes from vibration and stick rebound. The RETR. parameter (retrigger cancel) filters it out.

1. MENU → SENSITIVITY.
2. Hit the problem pad to select it.
3. Increase RETR.

Do not overdo it — too high a value cuts off fast, deliberate strokes. On the kick, also check whether the beater is bouncing back onto the pad.

Hitting one pad triggers another (crosstalk)

Vibration travels through the rack. The XTALK. parameter filters it out.

1. MENU → SENSITIVITY.
2. Hit the pad that sounds without being played — you are adjusting its value, not that of the pad you are striking.
3. Increase XTALK. until the false sounds disappear.

Mechanics help too: tighten the mounts and move the pads apart so they do not touch.

The rim, rimshot or cross-stick does not work

The rim has its own parameter, RIM SEN.

1. MENU → SENSITIVITY → RIM SEN.
2. Hit the pad to select it and increase the value.

The snare, toms and floor tom are dual-zone (head and rim). The hi-hat pad is single-zone — it has no rim by design.

The ride does not recognise Bell, Bow or Edge

The 12″ ride has three zones: bell, bow and edge. A strike on the boundary between zones can sound as the neighbouring zone — check where you are hitting first.

1. Make sure the cable is seated firmly in the socket.
2. Set SEN. for the ride (MENU → SENSITIVITY, select by hitting).
3. If the zones still get confused, run MENU → FTY RESET.

The crash does not respond at the edge

The crash is dual-zone — it responds to the bow and the edge.

1. Check that the cable is pushed fully home — both zones travel down the same cable.
2. Raise SEN. for that cymbal.
3. Lower THREH. if you play lightly.

Choking the cymbal by hand does not work

Your grip has to catch the edge of the cymbal. Grabbing the bell or the middle will not silence the sound. The crash and the ride have the choke function.

If nothing happens despite a correct grip, check the cable and run MENU → FTY RESET.

Can I connect extra cymbals or toms?

Yes. The module has two additional inputs: TOM4 and CRASH2. On the standard version you can add two elements this way, and the Pro kits already include them.

The manual recommends using only Black Hawk pads intended for the Tom4 and Crash2 inputs — that is the condition for compatibility.

The hi-hat does not recognise the open and closed positions

Opening and closing is handled by a separate foot controller with its own cable.

1. Check that the controller plug is pushed fully home.
2. Take your foot off the pedal and restart the module — it reads the rest position at start-up. If the pedal was weighed down when you switched on, the hi-hat stays closed.
3. If that does not help, run MENU → FTY RESET.

Does the hi-hat pad have a rim?

No. The hi-hat pad is single-zone — it responds to strikes on the surface, while opening and closing is handled by the foot controller.

How loud is the kick, and how do I quieten it?

We designed the kick pad for quiet operation and it is among the quietest on the market. In a flat, though, it is the kick that carries vibration into the floor.

1. Set the beater as close to the centre of the pad as possible.
2. Reduce the spring tension.
3. Put a mat under the whole kit; on wooden floors add a riser on rubber pucks.

Does any double pedal fit?

Yes. The kick pad works with every double pedal available on the market.

How do I connect the kit to a phone over Bluetooth?

1. Press the BLUETOOTH button on the module.
2. A flashing button means it is ready to pair.
3. On your phone, select the device BH DRUMS.

The phone cannot see the module

1. Make sure the BLUETOOTH button is flashing.
2. Switch Bluetooth off and on again on the phone.
3. Remove the old pairing from the list of saved devices and pair again.
4. Disconnect any other phone that was connected earlier.

Why is Bluetooth not suitable for recording?

The manual states it plainly: a wireless connection introduces more latency than USB. It is convenient for practising with a backing track, but for recording that latency pushes the tracks out of alignment.

For recording use USB-MIDI or the L/R audio outputs.

What is the 1337 code for?

It comes from the app-activation section of the manual — it is not needed for ordinary audio pairing. To connect a phone it is enough to select BH DRUMS.

To activate the apps supplied with the kit you need the serial number of the module.

How do I connect the kit to a computer and to EZdrummer, Addictive Drums or SSD?

1. Connect the USB-B socket on the rear panel to the computer with a data cable.
2. The module reports itself as a USB-MIDI class device — on Windows and macOS it needs no manufacturer drivers.
3. In your software, select the module as the MIDI input.
4. Load a virtual instrument and check that the pads respond.

The computer cannot see the module

1. Use a data cable — many cheap cables are for charging only.
2. Connect directly to the computer, bypassing any hub.
3. Check that the module is switched on before you start the software.
4. Refresh the device list in the MIDI settings of your software.

The sound from the computer is delayed — how do I reduce latency?

1. Use a low-latency audio interface.
2. On Windows, install ASIO drivers and select them in your software.
3. Reduce the buffer size in the audio settings.
4. Play over a cable — Bluetooth adds more latency than USB.

Does USB carry audio, or only MIDI?

Only MIDI. The USB-B socket handles communication with computers and MIDI devices. You take the audio signal from the L/R outputs (sockets 5 and 6), for example into a sound card.

The pads trigger the wrong instruments

That is a question of MIDI mapping. In MENU → MIDI NOTE you can check which note a pad sends (for example KICK. K-36). Match that note to the map in your software, or change the number in the module.

I hear two sounds while playing

The module and the virtual instrument are both sounding. Turn the module’s VOLUME knob down to zero, or mute the track in your software.

Can I connect external amplification?

Yes. The module has two line outputs, separately for the left and right channel, plus an independent headphone output. Simply connect them to an active monitor, an amplifier or a mixing desk.

There is no sound in the headphones

1. Check that the plug is in the 3.5 mm socket marked as the headphone input, not in the line input next to it.
2. Raise the level with the VOLUME knob.
3. Try different headphones — a damaged cable is the most common cause of sound in one channel only.

How do I record straight from the module?

Connect the L/R audio outputs to a sound card or another recording device.

The module also has its own single-track recorder: press REC, then hit any pad to start. Each new recording overwrites the previous one.

What do Sensitivity, Threshold, Xtalk and Retrigger mean?

• SEN. — pad sensitivity. Higher value: lighter hits give a full sound.
• RIM SEN. — rim sensitivity.
• THREH. — threshold, the minimum striking force needed to produce a sound.
• XTALK. — filter for crosstalk between pads.
• RETR. — elimination of double triggering.
• VOL. — volume of an individual element.

Important: you select the pad for editing by hitting it with a stick, not with the dial.

How do I restore the factory settings?

Press MENU, choose FTY RESET and confirm. The reset clears sound changes, pad settings and effects — the kit returns to the state it was in out of the box.

It is worth doing before reporting a fault: unusual settings can look like a failure.

Metronome, tempo and backing tracks

• CLICK — metronome menu.
• COACH — training menu.
• SONG — 50 built-in backing tracks. In the SONG settings you can change the tempo (30–250), the backing volume (0–127) and switch the drum sound off.

How do I change the reverb?

In the UTILITY menu you choose one of five effects: ROOMS, HILLS, PLATES, SPRING or ECHO. The amount is set with the AMBIENCE knob on the front panel.

The pad responds too weakly, or only to hard hits

Tap TRIGGER in the toolbar at the bottom of the main screen. The general settings hold:

• HEAD SENS — head trigger sensitivity.
• RIM SENSE — rim trigger sensitivity.
• THRESHOLD — the minimum striking force.
• CURVE — the velocity curve, how striking force translates into volume.

You switch between triggers with the left and right arrows (the TRIGGER entry in the same menu).

The pad produces double hits

Tap TRIGGER, then EXPERT to open the advanced settings:

• RETRIGGER CANCEL — masking of the double signal.
• MASK TIME — the double-trigger prevention time.
• SCAN TIME — the time the trigger signal needs to reach its maximum.

Start with RETRIGGER CANCEL, and only then adjust MASK TIME.

Hitting one pad triggers another

Tap TRIGGER → EXPERT → CROSSTALK. On the N-tron the crosstalk value is set automatically for the selected trigger — select the pad that sounds without being played and run the function.

Mechanics help too: tighten the mounts and move the pads apart so they do not touch.

The cross-stick switches at the wrong moment

The point at which the cross-stick sound gives way to a heavy hit is set by SPLIT POINT in the advanced settings: TRIGGER → EXPERT → SPLIT POINT.

Move it up if the cross-stick turns into a normal hit too easily, or down if it is hard to trigger.

The hi-hat misreads open and closed

Tap TRIGGER, then the HIHAT icon at the bottom of the screen.

• OPEN POINT — the open point.
• HALF POINT — the half-open point.
• CLOSE POINT — the closed point.
• MAX RANGE and MIN RANGE — the working range of the pedal.

The quickest route: use ACTIVE — it detects the pedal’s working range and sets the layer points automatically.

Foot splash is not detected

Tap TRIGGER → the HIHAT icon → SPLASH SENSE and raise the sensitivity.

If that does not help, run ACTIVE so the module detects the full working range of the pedal again.

Where do I set the level of each output?

The top bar of the main screen holds separate levels and adjustment menus for the main channel, headphones, auxiliary input and USB (OTG), with a mute switch beside them.

On the right of the bar you will find status icons: OTG connection, external charging, SD card and USB connection.

I hear two sounds when playing with a computer

Switch local control off: SETUP → LOCAL CTRL. With Local Control off the module stops playing its own sounds and only sends MIDI to the software — that is the standard fix for this.

How do I set the MIDI channel?

Tap SETUP in the bottom toolbar and choose MIDI CHANNEL.

What is in the bottom toolbar?

The bottom bar holds the menus: Recording, Tone, Trigger, Effects, Lesson and Settings.

How do I restore the factory settings?

Tap SETUP in the bottom toolbar, then RESET.

You can reset a single drum kit or all of them, and separately also TRIGGER, AUDIO and SYSTEM.

Note: RESET ALL clears every setting and is equivalent to restoring the factory state — use it with care. Preset kits are saved dynamically whenever related settings change, so they are restored from this menu too.

How do I update the software and change the language?

Tap SETUP, then SYSTEM. In the system menu you can update the device and change the interface language.

The instrument switches itself off / the screen is too dark

Both are set in SETUP:

• AUTO POWER — the auto-off time.
• BACKLIGHT — screen backlight brightness.

Can I change what the dials do?

Yes. Tap SETUP → SPECIAL. You can assign separate functions to a single and a double press of the left and right data wheels.

The instrument has two headphone sockets: 3.5 mm at the front and 6.35 mm at the rear. A plug left in either of them mutes the speakers.

1. Unplug the headphones from both sockets.
2. Check the volume level.
3. Make sure the instrument is not playing a file from a USB stick.

The speakers stop working when I plug in headphones — is that normal?

Yes. It is intended behaviour: inserting a plug into either of the two headphone sockets mutes the instrument’s speakers.

How do I connect an external audio source?

Use the audio input, which takes a phone or an MP3 player. The sound is then played through the piano’s speakers.

The keyboard plays at one volume, with no dynamics

Touch sensitivity is switched off.

1. Hold Function and press the white d4 key marked Force.
2. Repeating this switches the function back on — the current state is shown on the display.

How do I use Keyboard Split?

1. Select the voice for the left-hand section of the keyboard.
2. Hold Function and press the white e¹ key (Keyboard Split).
3. Use the selector dial to choose the voice for the right-hand section.

How do I use Dual Voice?

1. Select the first voice.
2. Hold Function and press the white d¹ key (Dual Tone).
3. Use the dial to choose the second voice — the keyboard then plays both instruments at once.

How do I change the instrument voice?

Hold Function and press a key in the C1–C range (Voice Region) to pick one of the 8 default voices. The name appears on the display. The remaining voices, out of 128 available, are selected with the dial.

How do I switch the reverb off?

Hold Function and press the white c4 key marked Reverb. Repeating the action switches the effect back on. By default the reverb is on when the instrument starts.

How do I connect the pedals and what does each one do?

The pedals connect with a single triple plug. The order of functions is: una corda (soft), sostenuto, sustain.

The plug has to be pushed fully home — a partial connection shifts the functions between pedals.

The sustain does not work, or works in reverse

1. Push the pedal plug fully home.
2. Switch the instrument off, reconnect the plug and switch it on again without keeping your foot on the pedal — the instrument reads the rest position at start-up.

How do I connect the piano over Bluetooth Audio?

Switch Bluetooth on in your phone and look for the device named Audio. The password is 8888.

Once connected, the piano works as a Bluetooth speaker — sound from the phone plays through the instrument.

The phone sees Bluetooth Audio, but the app cannot see MIDI

These are two independent connections. Bluetooth MIDI does not connect from the phone’s settings.

1. Install a music app that supports MIDI.
2. Connect the instrument from inside that app, not in the system settings.

How do I play music from a USB stick?

Insert the USB memory — playback starts automatically. Supported formats: MP3, WMA, MP4, WAV, FLAC, ACC.

• Track selection and pause: Function + the white keys g3–b3.
• Playback volume: Function + the Volume +/− keys.

The USB stick is not detected

1. Check the file formats — the instrument plays MP3, WMA, MP4, WAV, FLAC and ACC.
2. Format the memory as FAT32.
3. Put the files in the root directory, without nested folders.

How do I connect the piano to a computer?

Use the USB MIDI port, which is separate from the port for USB sticks. Once connected, the instrument works with a computer, tablet or phone and with software for learning, composing and recording.

There is no sound from the speakers

How do I split the keyboard?

1. First select the voice for the right hand.
2. Press the Keyboard Split button — the display shows “ON”.
3. Then select the voice for the left hand.
4. Pressing the button again disables the split (“OFF”).

The keyboard plays at one volume, with no dynamics

On the V5 the force sensing is toggled with the Chord/Dynamics button.

1. Press and hold the Chord/Dynamics button until you hear a tone.
2. That toggles force sensing; by default it is enabled.

A short press of the same button switches chords on and off, not the dynamics.

How do I transpose the instrument?

Press the Transpose button, then shift the pitch with the + and − buttons.

How do I start the rhythm accompaniment?

1. Press the Rhythm or Start/Stop button to enter rhythm mode and begin playback.
2. The + and − buttons change to the next or previous pattern.
3. Pressing again stops playback.

The Chord button enables chords (display “Cho”) and Sync enables rhythm synchronisation (“SYN”).

How do I switch on the metronome and change the beat?

Press the Metronome button — the default beat is 4/1. Further presses cycle through 4/1, 4/2, 4/3, 4/4 and then off.

How do I record my own playing?

1. Press Record to start recording.
2. Press Record again to stop.
3. The Play button plays or stops the recorded track.

Which pedal does what?

A set of three pedals connects to the instrument:

• Right — sustain, holds notes after the keys are released.
• Middle — sostenuto, holds only the notes pressed at the moment the pedal goes down.
• Left — soft, softens and quietens the sound.

How do I connect the V5 to a computer?

The V5 has a USB MIDI output, which supports learning, composing and recording with music software.
